Peak Pursuits Charity for 2011 is Audley First Responders

Peak Pursuits is pleased to announce that its chosen charity for 2011 is Audley First Responders.

Audley First Responders are a non-profit making voluntary organisation relying solely on donations and fundraising to help run the organisation. First Responders give their spare time to assist the Ambulance Service by responding to 999 calls for the Audley and District Community, responding within 8 minutes to administer emergency aid until the ambulance arrives.

Changes in practice to the administration of drugs for respiratory and cardiac problems required the use of a defibrillator and ECG monitor and Peak Pursuits has provided £2000 to buy this vital piece of equipment.

Paul Sargent of Audley First Responders explains, "The new Defibrillator now allows us to continue to give the drug salbutamol which is a drug of choice when attending someone with severe breathing difficulty. Since March 2010 we have not been able to do this due to the change in protocols. Salbutamol has been used on a number of occasions to prevent the patient becoming more severe. The change was that we must conduct a three lead ECG monitoring whilst giving the drug. Having the new Defibrillator also allows us to detect early signs of Cardiac problems and treat accordingly."

Paul Ball, Managing Director of Peak Pursuits adds, "Both Audley Climbing Centre and Peak Pursuits' Head Office are based in Audley and Audley First Responders is an important organisation and service within our community. We are delighted to offer our support by purchasing the defibrillator and providing additional funding of £200 per month for general running costs."
