Tourism Minister Meets Peak Pursuits During Peak District Visit
Tourism Minister John Penrose visited the Peak District and Staffordshire earlier this week at the invitation of Visit Peak District and some of its key public and private sector partners to see at first-hand the current and future challenges and opportunities they face.
He rounded off his visit with an evening reception attended by guests from the private sector which included Peak Pursuits Managing Director, Paul Ball at East Lodge Hotel and Restaurant at Rowsley. Mr Penrose stayed there overnight before travelling over to Staffordshire for a second day's tour.
"Both the Peak District and Derbyshire are beautiful destinations that offer a fantastic range of attractions to their visitors," said Mr. Penrose. "I'm pleased to see the private and public sectors working so closely together to encourage growth and inspire more people to visit the region. One of the key points of our tourism policy is to encourage destination management organisations and tourism bodies to be more effective and strongly business-focused, and it's great to see this in action on the ground."
"It was a genuine pleasure to welcome Mr. Penrose to the Peak District to see for himself the successful way the public and private sectors are working closely together to ensure that tourism - and all those who depend on it for their livelihoods - prospers, both now and in the future," said David Thornton, Visit Peak District's Head of Marketing.
Peak Pursuits Managing Director, Paul Ball added,"It was a great opportunity to highlight the importance of the outdoors industry to the local economy with Mr Penrose . We also discussed issues and opportunities surrounding educational visits and their importance in introducing the Peak District and the surrounding area to children and teenagers."
