MIAS Level 2 Assessment
4th November 2012 - Time: 10:00 -15:00 - £65
Location:
The exact location/venue for the assessment will be discussed with
the candidates and a 2 week lead will be given with maps to allow
candidates to plan their lead ride section.
Covering all aspects of leadership for a level 2 ride while leading a group. This will include riding terrain from short sections of road to technical singletrack. Candidates will be under constant assessment during the whole of the assessment period and will have specific assessment criteria applied when leading the group. Specific details of the sections of the assessment are listed below.
Personal Fitness:
Capable of a 4 hour ride off road ride in level 2 terrain.
Personal Skills:
Assessment includes ascents, descents at level 2 grade. General
riding skills assessed over the full day.
Leadership:
Each candidate will choose/be given a section of route which they
can pre-ride. During the assessment they will lead this
section as if leading a group (age/ability of group will be given
prior to riding the section).
Navigation:
Candidates should be able to read suitable maps/guide books, be
able to interpret terrain and features, use a compass to set the
map and be able to attain direction of travel. The use of a basic
cycle computer if highly advisable for off-road cycling and
candidates should be conversant with their particular model for
distance, trip distance and average speed.
Maintenance:
All candidates should be able to carry out a basic cycle safety
check, they will be expected to be able to carry out maintenance in
the field and be able to talk another member of the group through
the task.
Equipment:
Candidates should have all of their own equipment (or their company
issued kit) including a suitable cycle, tools, spares, first aid,
emergency equipment and their own personal kit suitable for a level
2 ride. Consideration should be given to the location of the
assessment, the time of year and the prevailing/forecasted weather
conditions.
Question Paper:
A level 2 question paper will be completed by each candidate (this
normally written but can be a verbal completion if required) which
there is an allocation of 40 minutes.
