Silver Level Expeditions
take place over 3 days and 2 nights. It involves
a minimum of 7 hours planned activity each day.
Walking expeditions cover 48km/30 miles. Cycling
and canoeing involve at least 5 hours journeying
each day.
Initial Briefing and
Training - Participants should plan
a venture in terms of purpose, mode of transport,
chosen environment etc and undertake appropriate
training.
Practice Journeys
- Participants must undertake sufficient practice
journeys to enable them to complete their planned
venture.
Qualifying Venture
and Debriefing - A qualifying venture
with a purpose must be undertaken, with a group
of between four and seven young people, followed
by a debrief.
Review -
All participants provide a presentation or account
related to the purpose.
Peak Pursuits Open Silver Walking Expedition
Thur 27th March – Tues 1st April: Open Silver in The Peak District
(aimed at those whose Easter holidays are in March)
Sun 6 th – Fri 11 th April: Open Silver The Peak District
(aimed at those whose Easter holidays are in April)
Sun 26th – Fri 31st October: Open Silver in The Peak District
£150 per candidate
Day 1
Arrive at the campsite. The morning will be spent getting an overview of the Silver Award Expedition.
After lunch you will plan your expedition route.
Day 2-4
3 day expedition through the beautiful Peak District

For groups of less than 15 candidates

Option A
Peak Pursuits offer an expedition package consisting of 10 evening sessions and 2 weekends. A member of our dedicated Duke of Edinburgh's Award Team will instruct and prepare your group over the 10 sessions guiding them through the practice weekend.
The preparatory sessions include the topics of:
Introduction to The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition / Map Work / Camp craft and Equipment / First Aid / Emergency Procedures / Navigation /Route planning /Cooking / Camping Stoves / Tents / Rucksack packing / Pre-Expedition Checks.
The final 3 day weekend is the qualifying expedition and is assessed by our Award Team Instructor.
Option B
We also offer a package involving a single intensive training day covering the topics listed above, with our instructor preparing your group for their practice weekend. They will participate in this weekend before undertaking their qualifying expedition. The qualifyng weekend is assessed by our Award Team Instructor.
On this option you will be expected to to support the candidates through expedition planning and completion of route cards. These must be forwarded to Peak pursuits atleast 2 weeks prior to the qualifying expedition.
Option C
This package involves 2 days of intensive training with 1 training/practice weekend. The final qualifying 3 day weekend is assessed by our Award Team Instructor.
On this option Peak Pursuits will deliver a complete expedition overview and produce expedition routes and route cards with the candidates.
