The upland areas of
Mallorca's north-west region remain magically
unspoiled and underpopulated. Here, the
imposing Serra de Tramuntana with more
than 40 peaks rising above 1000m dominates
the horizon. Its trail skirts down to
cliffs which plunge into the sea.
On your journey you
wind up the six steep curves of the Seis
Voletes. Through the valley littered with
tight terraces of olive trees above dry
stone walls, you rise to the Mirador to
enjoy the magnificent views of the entire
Sóller basin and the coast beyond.
Torrent de Pareis passes through the richly
cultivated fruit orchards of Vall de Balitx
valley, moving uphill to overlook Cala
Tuet where you can drop down to the beach
of sand and pebbles for a swim, laze or
refreshing drink. We then descend to the
clamour of Sa Calobra teeming with day
trippers, where you can reward yourself
with a drink at one of the café
terraces.
Following the boundary
of Ses Tanques de Baix through a lip of
the gorge you begin a zigzagging descent
towards a steep narrow trail. After passing
between two giant perpendicular cliffs
you return to the stream bed, here begins
the true Torrent dePareis. A narrow canyon
where the sun rarely penetrates you continue
along the gorge as you begin to climb
down the first of three giant boulders.
After negotiating these huge monoliths
your reward is Font des Degotis, a spring
where water drips from the fronds on the
rock wall, here you can quench your thirst
or even take a natural shower.
